Palace Intruder wins 2014 Aquanita Stakes Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA) 3yo, 1800m.
Palace Intruder overcame a wide trip to win. He raced in fifth place, three wide without cover, but settled nicely following a moderate tempo (first 1200m 1:15.27). Tommy Berry moved him up approaching the home turn, challenged on straightening and finished a bit too well to score by a half-length, putting up a good performance.
The favourite Say Geronimo raced outside the leader (Breckenridge), took the lead once into the straight and then fought gamely for second.
Keysbrook was eighth to the 800m, moved up wide with cover from the 600m and fought on quite well for third while second favourite Tonto was near last to the 800m, improved (wide out) from the 600m and ran on soundly under his top weight (57.5 kg) for fourth, beaten just under two lengths.
