2015 Kensington Stakes Listed January 10 - Flemington

3 minute read

The Quarterback wins 2015 Kensington Stakes Listed $120,000 at Flemington (VIC) 3yo+, 1000m.

Consistent four-year-old The Quarterback ($2.50 favourite) took out his record to six wins from 15 starts (with five placings) in taking out his first stakes race here. He settled back in ninth place from his outside barrier (11) and tracked runners, racing nearer to the Grandstand side before commencing his bid at the 300m. He moved up to challenge at the 100m and finished too strongly to win, drawing clear by a long neck.

Sumakaray raced close to the leaders, went to the front at the 100m and she then fought gamely for a good second.

Hard Stride was a handy fourth, went to second at the 100m and battled on for a close-up third.

The Godolphin-raced three-year old Orujo travelled nicely, close to the leaders until nearing the 100m and held on for fourth, beaten just under a length.
