Headwater wins 2015 Blackwoods Uvex Silver Slipper Group 2 $250,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 2yo, 1100m.
Headwater claimed Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) favouritism with a most impressive win. He was quickly away, immediately took the lead and then settled well. He was taken a bit wide by Blake Shinn on straightening, established a clear lead by the 200m and was then untroubled to win impressively by two and a quarter lengths.
Voilier was fourth, between runners, got through to second at the 250m and then fought on particularly well for a good second, although having no chance with the winner.
Queensland-trained Mishani Honcho was last in the seven-horse field to the turn, where he was under riding. He switched wider on the track at the 300m and then came with a late run to take a good third.
Ottoman, early favourite for the Golden Slipper, disappointed. She was fifth (wide with cover), switched out on turning for home, got to third at the 100m but then weakened to finish (5.2 lengths) fourth.
Outsider Alart battled on quite well for (7.2 lengths) fifth whilst Paceman (9.9 lengths) sixth, also disappointed, tiring after being trapped three deep (without cover) close to the lead. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities but co-trainer Peter Snowden reported that when Paceman returned to scale its tongue was in the back of its mouth and was discoloured indicating that he may have choked down.
