Alpine Eagle is a very promising staying-bred colt with quite a future, now winning four of his five starts. He settled back in ninth place, one off the rails and was urged to improve by Damien Oliver nearing the 600m. He went very wide at the home turn, was still under strong riding and back in fifth place at the 200m. But he rallied late, coming with a strong finish to score a last stride win. He obviously will appreciate further and has considerable potential.

Godolphin’s Minnesinger was eighth on the rails, stuck to the inside at the home turn, went to fourth at the 200m and grabbed a narrow lead at the 50m before being caught on the post for a good second.

Firehouse Rock enjoyed a perfect trip in third place, looked the winner when he dashed clear approaching the 200m but wilted in the closing stages for third.

Magicool raced outside the leader (Zahspeed) going at a solid tempo, and fought on well for a sound (3.9 lengths) fourth while Moonovermanhattan was a handy fifth most of the way and held on to take that position at the finish, beaten just over four lengths.
