Hallowed Crown wins 2015 Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas Group 1 $600,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yo, 1600m.
Hallowed Crown won his second Group One race and took his impressive record to six wins from seven starts, in putting up another very game effort. He was smartly away, and then eased to race in second place but was under riding at the home turn. He lifted strongly from the 100m and then proved too good, winning by almost a length.
Sweynesse was last in the six-horse field to the 600m. James McDonald steered him along the rails (as most riders went wider) at the home turn and challenged at the 200m. He then kept fighting on for a very good second.
The favourite Shooting To Win went to the front, travelled nicely and briefly looked the winner when he grabbed a break at the 300m. But he found the other two colts a bit too good in the closing stages and finished a sound third, beaten just under a length.
Sworn To Silence finished fourth, just over three lengths from the winner, after racing in third place on the rails to the home turn while outsider Rhodin Drive held on for (5.1 lengths) fifth.
Preferment made a wide run from last, nearing the 600m, before finishing (5.2 lengths) last in the six-horse field, at his second run since winning the Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) in November.
