Sertorius wins 2015 Le Pine Funerals Easter Cup Group 3 $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC), 2000m.
Sertorius settled nicely in eighth place, one off the rails. He improved wide with cover from the 600m, switched deep at the home turn and challenged strongly at the 100m. He then finished a bit too well to score by a neck. It was a good effort and also a good ride by Noel Callow.
Escado settled midfield but was caught three wide. He moved up (deep) from the 800m, challenged on turning for home and after taking the lead at the 200m fought back gamely for second after a difficult trip.
Shoreham was just beyond midfield between runners at the 800m, he went wide on straightening and ran on quite well for a sound third.
Sabor A Triunfo raced in last place in the 11-horse field before moving up (wide) from the 700m. She fanned wide, under pressure, at the home turn and kept battling on quite well for (2.4 lengths) fourth.
The Cleaner went to the front as usual but did not run along at his usual breakneck pace (first 1400m 1:26.10). He was headed nearing the 200m and held on fairly well for (2.5 lengths) fifth, appearing to race below his best form.
