Delicacy wins 2015 Schweppes Australasian Oaks Group 1 May 2 $ 400,000 at Morphettville (SA) 3yoFillies, 2000m.
WA-trained filly Delicacy made it five wins in succession in putting up an impressive performance in winning at her first start outside her home state. She settled back in tenth place, following a steady pace (first 1400m 1:29.07). She was travelling well behind a packing field at the home turn, got a split at 250m and sprinted quickly to win easily by a length and a quarter. It was a very smart effort.
Fenway led and slowed the mid-race pace. She grabbed a break on turning for home and looked the winner but she was outsprinted by a high quality filly in the closing stages to finish second. Bahamas was a handy fourth most of the way, put in a run on entering the straight and then fought on well for third.
Jurasound was fifth on the rails, got clear running from the 200m and battled on quite well for fourth.
Favourite Fontein Ruby was a bit slow to move from barrier two and was then shuffled back to ninth on the rails and although disadvantaged by a moderate early pace, did not run on as expected in the straight to finish (6.6 lengths) 11th.
