In A Wink wins 2015 Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes Listed $140,000 at Scone (NSW) 3yoFillies, 1100m.
Locally trained filly In A Wink was a surprise winner. She settled well back in the field in 12th place, following a solid pace. She improved on the inner rounding the home turn, switched between runners to challenge at the 200m, hit the front at the 50m and then fought back to win in a photo.
Fine Mist was smartly away but she was caught deep from her barrier (14) and eased to race about eighth, close to the pace but out very wide. She went to the centre of the track at the 200m and finished well to miss by a short half head for an unlucky second, her barrier proving costly.
Felines shared the lead, racing on the rails, with quite a bit of early pressure. She stuck gamely to a narrow lead until the 100m and did well in holding on for third.
Favourite Donelle raced wide from barrier ten, being close to the leading division, without cover. She then weakened from the home turn to finish (5.4 lengths) 11th after a hard run.
