Shiraz wins 2015 Aurie’s Star Group 3 $150,000 at Flemington (VIC), 1200m.
Shiraz continued his progression through the classes, stepping up to win this Group Three race and remain unbeaten in three runs this preparation. He began well and settled nicely just behind the leader, racing on the rails side. He went to the inner at the 400m, took the lead at the 300m and then fought off several challengers to score a narrow but game win.
Play Master travelled well in seventh place, just behind the leaders. He got a split at the 300m, challenged strongly at the 100m and battled strongly to just miss in a photo for a close second.
Le Bonsir went forward and held a narrow lead to the 300m and fought on well for a good third. Pago Rock shared the lead until reaching the 300m and then held on for (1.1 lengths) fourth.
Dual Group One winner Trust In A Gust raced in fifth place, just behind the leading group, but was under pressure from the 300m and then battled on for (5.5 lengths) seventh in the sprint home in a sound first-up run with his top weight (60kg).
