Madam Gangster wins 2015 William Hill Sprint Series Ht Group 3 $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 4yo+Mares, 1200m.
In a close finish, Madam Gangster did well in overcoming a wide barrier (14) to score a first-up win in a photo. She was smartly away before settling about eighth. She then tracking up (wide with cover) from the 600m, switched out to challenge at the 200m and fought gamely for a narrow but good win. It was also an excellent ride by Blake Shinn.
Hazard settled back in tenth place from her outside barrier (16). She improved (wide) rounding the home turn, put in a quick run to challenge at the 100m and battled strongly for a very good, first-up second.
Vezalay was smartly away from barrier ten, raced three deep outside the leading pair (Vibrant Rouge & More Radiant) to the home turn, got to the front at the 100m and then fought gamely for a close-up third after a difficult trip.
Group One winner May's Dream was second last in the 16-horse field to the home turn, switched deep nearing the 200m and caught the eye with her lateclosing (0.7 lengths) fourth.
The other Group One winner in the field, Cosmic Endeavour settled in ninth place, between runners, was under riding nearing the home turn but then kept fighting on quite well under her 59kg to finish a sound first-up seventh, beaten a length and a half.
