Vanbrugh followed up his recent Gloaming Stakes (Gr 3, 1800m) win with another impressive win here, his first at Group One. He was handily placed in fourth spot before being checked and shuffled back to third last in the ten-horse field at the 600m. Glyn Schofield let him balance-up, went deep at the home turn and then put in a strong run to hit the front at the 100m before going on to a strong win.

Queensland-trained I'm Belucci was near the tail of the field on the rails, went deep looking for clear running at the 300m and came with a late run to grab second in a photo in a really promising effort.

Man Of Choice raced behind the leader, was held up at the home turn before getting a split to take a narrow lead at the 200m. He then battled on well for a good third.

Hierarchal was near last to the home turn, went deep on straightening and made good ground for (1.6 lengths) fourth, going well in this class at only his third race start.

Queenslander Too Good To Refuse was eighth to the 600m, moved up well at the home turn, looked a threat at the 200m and then battled on for a sound (1.7 lengths) fifth.
