Scarlet Billows wins 2015 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes Group 3 $200,000 at Flemington (VIC) 4yo+Mares, 1400m.
Scarlet Billows began well from a wide barrier and settled nicely in sixth place, one off the rails. She switched out rounding the home turn, got to third at the 200m and then finished too well, racing clear in the closing stages to win decisively.
Favourite Wawail had a good trip behind the leader (Exclusive Lass), looked the winner in the straight and briefly hit the front at the 100m before fighting on for second after appearing to have every chance.
She's Clean drifted back from her inside barrier (1) and settled midfield on the rails. She was shuffled back further coming to the home turn, switched back to the rails at the 150m and made late ground for a good third.
Sultry Feeling was seventh on the rails, got through to fourth on passing the 200m and battled on to hold that position at the post, beaten just over fourth lengths.
Queensland-trained mare Traveston Girl crossed to race outside the leader from a wide barrier and battled on in the straight for (4.8 lengths) fifth while Exclusive Lass ran a bold race, leading the field until passing the 200m before finishing (5.6 lengths) sixth.
