Mime wins 2016 McKee Family Sunline Vase Group 3 NZ$70,000 at Ellerslie (NZ) 3yoFillies, 2100m.
Favourite Mime took advantage of her barrier draw in three to take the trail just outside the leader. Down the back straight she got cover, setting up the perfect spot, one out and one back. At the 700m she made a forward move into third and just before straightening claimed second and looked dangerous. She ran up to leader Maritimo but was spooked, stopped and then got going again at the 200m. Now with momentum she ran past and pulled clear to win this her second Group race by a length.
Promise To Reign was midfield on the rails at the 1000m, improved to track Mime into the straight where she made her run out in the middle of the track. Mime’s baulk affected Promise To Reign, who also lost her rhythm but slowly got going again late to nab second.
Maritimo led from the outset and half way down the home straight was going freely and fought on very well right to the post for a well earned third.
