Single Gaze wins 2016 Vinery Stud Stakes Group 1 $500,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yoFillies, 2000m.
Single Gaze showed early pace and soon crossed to race outside the leader. She then eased to race in fourth place from the 1000m. She moved up well at the home turn, took the lead at the 200m and then fought back strongly for a very good win. It was also a good ride by Kathy O’Hara.
Valley Girl had a good run in third place on the rails, challenge on the inner at the 200m and kept fighting well for a good second after appearing to have every chance.
Happy Hannah did not show much early pace and settled in tenth place on the rails. She switched between runners on turning for home, got to fifth at the 200m and then kept running on resolutely to take second, putting up a sound trial for the upcoming ATC Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m).
Self Esteem soon went to the front and then set quite a reasonable tempo (first 1400m in 1:28.55). She then held the lead until 200m and held on well for a good (1.5 lengths) fourth.
New Zealand-trained Capella was ninth to the home and then ran on really well in the straight for (1.8 lengths) fifth in a promising effort at her first Australian start.
Honesta was back in 11th place and kept running on well over the final stages for a promising (2.6 lengths) sixth, looking suited to further still.
The favourite Risque had a good run in fifth place on the rails but was under pressure from the home turn and disappointed in finishing (3.7 lengths) eighth.
