Astern wins 2016 Widden Kindergarten Stakes Group 3 $200,000 at Randwick (NSW) 2yo, 1100m.
Godolphin-raced colt Astern soon recovered after a slow start but was trapped wide in fourth place. He moved up strongly rounding the home turn, challenged at 200m and after a great battle to the post, he dead-heated for first.
El Divino travelled nicely in third place, three wide. He improved on turning for home, challenged strongly at the 200m and then fought really gamely to dead-heat for first. It was an excellent effort at only his second race start and he looks a quality colt.
Geneteau went to the front and held the lead until passing the 200m and she then battled strongly for a really good third on what was a significant step up in class.
Alliterate was fifth on the rails, stuck to the inner on straightening and held on nicely for fourth.
