Nostradamus 2016 R N Irwin Stakes Group 3 $120,000 at Morphettville (SA), 1100m.
Nostradamus, who was having his second run for new trainer Phillip Stokes, scored a really good win, albeit narrowly. He settled in a midfield position, wide with cover, tracking a good tempo before fanning deep on turning for home. He then put in a strong run from the 100m and came with a late bid to grab a very good win on the post.
I Am Gypsy raced outside the leader (Sandhill Flash), dashed to the front at the 200m and looked the winner, only to be caught on the post for a very good second.
Runway Star was ninth on the rails, eased wider nearing the 200m and then came with a late run to take third in a photo.
The favourite Tuscan Sling had a good trip from her inside barrier (1) in third place on the rails but disappointed in the straight to finish (2.6 lengths) eighth after seeming to have every chance.
