Mackintosh wins 2016 Mittys Rough Habit Plate Group 3 $125,000 at Doomben (QLD) 3yo, 2000m.
Mackintosh is now the winner of two of his three starts since coming from New Zealand to join the Chris Waller stable. He again went to the front, steadied the pace (first 1400m 1:28.25) before dashing clear rounding the home turn. He then raced away to score most impressively, sprinting home in a quick 34.56 (last 600m), looking primed for further success over the Brisbane carnival.
Cylinder Beach was sixth, one off the rails. He improved between runners (under riding) nearing the home turn and then kept battling on soundly for second being somewhat disadvantaged by the average early tempo.
Brazen was back in tenth place before making a quick, very wide, move approaching the home turn. He got to second on straightening and did well in holding on to take the minor placing.
Eagle Way raced towards the rear of the 13-horse field to the 600m before making a wide move. He then kept making ground in the straight for a sound (3.9 lengths) fourth.
