Sacred Elixir wins Bmw J.J. Atkins Group 1 $600,000 at Eagle Farm (QLD) 2yo, 1600m.
New Zealand two-year-old gelding Sacred Elixir was most impressive in taking out this Group One race. He was ridden quietly his wide barrier (11) and settled back in 13th place before improving well (wide with cover) on passing the 800m. He got to the front at the 200m and then drew away over to closing stages, running the 1600m out very well, for a very good win.
Charnley River worked from his wide barrier (17) racing in sixth place (wide out). He put in a strong run coming to the home turn and challenged gamely in the straight. He then fought very well for second, putting up a smart effort after a wide run.
Heart Skipt A Beat was back in tenth place before improving (wide out) from the 600m. She challenged at the 200m and then battled gamely to take the minor placing in a surprisingly good run for a $101 chance.
Souchez had a nice run in fifth place, just behind the leaders but just battled on in the straight for (6.6 lengths) fourth after seeming to have every chance.
