Amexed wins 2016 Cellar M’tenance Caloundra Cup Listed $175,000 at Sunshine Coast (QLD), 2400m.
Amexed settled well back in ninth place, behind a very steady tempo before improving well nearing the 700m. He fanned deeper at the home turn, challenged at the 200m, took the lead shortly afterwards and then went on to win well.
Jumbo Prince raced in third last place in the 12-horse field, tracked up (wide with cover) from the 600m, got to fifth at the 200m and then kept making ground for a good second.
All Clear made a move at the 1200m before easing to race in fourth, one off the rails at the 1000m. She improved coming to the home turn, was in a challenging position at the 200m and then battled nicely to take the minor placing.
Instrumentalist raced midfield prior to making a move, due to the moderate pace, to race outside the leader (Puccini) from the 1000m. He briefly got to the front at the 200m and then held on quite well for (3.4 lengths) fourth.
The short-priced favourite Maurus was again ridden quietly and remained well back in last place in the 12-horse field until the home turn. He was blocked on straightening, got into clear running at the 200m and then found the task difficult under his 59kg in the sprint-home conditions of the race to finish (3.7 lengths) fifth.
