Trenchant wins 2016 Taj Rossi Series Final Listed $120,000 at Flemington (VIC) 2yo, 1600m.
Promising Godolphin-raced colt Trenchant was smartly away from his wide barrier (10) before easing to race in sixth place, three wide with cover, behind a moderate tempo (first 1000m 62.66). He improved (deep) rounding the home turn, got to a narrow lead at the 200m and then fought back under pressure to score in a photo finish.
Futura was eighth, between runners, before switching deepest of all at the home turn. He challenged at the 300m and then kept battling gamely for a very close second, putting up a really smart effort for a maiden at only his third race start.
All Out Of Love settled back in 11th place, one off the rails, before getting through to eighth at the 300m. He then kept running on strongly to take a very good third.
Cobbmore was seventh on the rails, pushed deeper rounding the home turn, was in a challenging position at the 300m and then battled on for (1.9 lengths) fourth.
