Russian Revolution wins 2016 Vain Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yoColts & Geldings, 1100m.
Russian Revolution remains unbeaten in three starts, putting up a good effort in winning at his first start in Melbourne. He began well and soon went to the front. He then settled particularly well, steadying the tempo (first 600m 36.06). He got a break on straightening and fought back well when challenged to score a good win.
Highland Beat settled in sixth place, between runners, but was shuffled back rounding the home turn. He angled into clear running on passing the 600m and then came with a strong late finish for a very good first-up second.
Hardham settled in second last place in the nine-horse field, improved between runners at the home turn and got through to third at the 200m. He then fought on really well along the rails for a good third.
Valliano raced outside the leader and eventual winner (Russian Revolution) and held on nicely for a good fourth, beaten a length, while Wazzenme ran on well from the tail of the field for a late-closing (1.8 lengths) fifth.
