Foxplay wins 2016 Tea Rose Stakes Group 2 $175,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yoFillies, 1400m.
In a close finish where the first six horses finished less than a length apart, the favourite Foxplay overcame difficulties to win. She settled in sixth place, one off the rails, but was held up for clear running until getting a late split on passing the 200m. She then came with a strong late finish to grab a narrow but impressive win.
Skylight Glow traveled well outside the leader (Plenty To Like), got to the front at the 200m and was only caught nearing the post for a good second after running a bold race.
Quick Feet was fourth, one out and one back), challenged at the 300m and then battled really well for a close-up third.
The winner’s Chris Waller-trained stablemate Sezanne was eighth, one off the rails, moved up nicely at the 300m, challenged at the 200m and fought well for a close-up fourth.
The $101 outsider Plenty To Like led the field to the 200m and then held on surprisingly well for (0.7 lengths) fifth while Global Glamour raced in fifth place on the rails (going a bit keenly in stages), had clear running on the rails in the straight and battled quite well for (0.8 lengths) sixth.
