Star Turn wins 2016 Schillaci Stakes Group 2 $400,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yo+, 1100m.
Quality sprinting colt Star Turn scored a most impressive first up win, easily beating his older rivals here. He was smartly away, raced in fourth place, between the leading trio, going at a solid pace. He drove through to take the lead at the 300m and was not threatened from that point to score easily, and in fast time.
Malaguerra, having his first run for new trainer Peter Gelagotis, settled in sixth place, just behind the leading group, made a wide move at the home turn, got to second at the 200m and fought on nicely to hold that position, without threatening the winner.
Fell Swoop raced in seventh place, wide with cover, got into clear running at the 300m, and kept fighting on well to take the minor placing in a sound first up effort.
Ocean Embers raced in last place in the ten-horse field, went widest of all at the 300m and ran on nicely for (4.3 lengths) fourth.
Of the others, the Group One winner Hucklebuck was sixth on the rails and kept fighting on for (6.3 lengths) seventh while Turn Me Loose was last at the home turn and made very good late ground for eighth, both going nicely over this short distance at this stage of their preparations, especially the latter.
