Sheidel wins 2016 Sensis Stakes Group 3 $200,000 at Flemington (VIC) 4yo+Mares, 1100m.
Former Western Australian raider Sheidel scored her sixth stakes win, 14th in total and her prize money passed the $1,000,000 barrier with a very good, all-the-way win here under Joao Moreira. She jumped well from barrier 12 (the field split into two divisions soon after the start) but Moreira used her early speed and headed for the outside fence where she had a length lead among the wider group over the crossing. There was little between the two groups of runners but into the last 200m the outside runners were doing better and Moreira threw everything at Sheidel in the last 100m and she just held on bravely to score a narrow victory.
Wild Rain was handy for most of the journey and made her strong run inside the last 200m, just failing to nab the winner before the line.
Private Secretary (also in the outside group) pulled her way into second at the 100m and looked a big danger but was outgunned in the last two strides for a gallant third.
