Savaria wins 2017 Wallaceville Wellington Cup Group 3 NZ$250,000 at Trentham (NZ), 3200m.
Savaria had the last run at them to score narrowly but well here. She settled worse than midfield, one off the fence with a circuit to run. Down the back straight she stood the leaders about 12 lengths with her rider Hayden Tinsley content to let her lob along comfortably. Inexplicably Savaria threw her head in the air at the 800m and by the 600m had dropped back to last. Tinsley woke her up and threaded their way between runners then pulled the mare wide at the top of the straight. She took some time to wind up and inside the 250m was travelling well, ranged up alongside eight runners lined up across the track and thrust her head out over the last 50m to score by a head.
Jacksstar was last at the 1000m then moved forward steadily yet was widest of all turning for the run home. He too took time to wind up but really motored over the last 100m but could not quite peg back the winner.
Perfect Start was sixth at the 1000m, drifted back then got going again into the straight where she finished well between runners for a good third.
Fanatic grabbed the lead at the 300m but was run down over the last 100m for a fair fourth.
