Thee Auld Floozie wins 2017 Harcourts Thorndon Mile Group 1 NZ$200,000 at Trentham (NZ), 1600m.
Capping consistent form and with her fourth win in her last six starts, Thee Auld Floozie was rewarded with her first Group One win, and in great style here. Rider Rosie Myers bounced the mare away well from the inside draw to be handy early yet slowly drifted to be midfield at the 800m but saving ground down on the fence. She nursed the five-year-old to the top of the straight then moved one out then back to the fence and waited. Presented with a huge gap she cruised through at the 200m and full or running, drew clear over the last 100m and won comfortably.
Prince Of Passion was very wide around the bend, widest turning in and ran on strongly, especially over the last 150m for a sound second.
Abidewithme was equal last at the 600m, tracked Prince of Passion around the last corner then ran on very well, flashing into third in the shadows of the post.
Favourite Volkstok'n'barrell looked to challenge once into the straight but could not match the first three over the last 200m in a disappointing (3.1 lengths) fourth.
