Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 24th of February

3 minute read

Just the sole meeting in Singapore over the weekend with the unbeaten Countofmontecristo one of the stand-out performances on Friday night.

Trained by Michael Clements, Countofmontecristo has displayed plenty of ability and proceeded to take that next step in the fifth event.

Ridden by Glen Boss, the son of Echoes Of Heaven always travelled strongly and while briefly challenged by Deimos passing the 200m, he asserted his authority late.

Unbeaten from three starts, Countofmontecristo was only a narrow winner two back, however the form through Sir Isaac appears very strong.

Eased down late, Countofmontecristo saluted comfortably by two lengths, with four and a half lengths back to third.

Ridden to lead at his first two starts, Countofmontecristo looked to appreciate taking a sit and is sure to improve further stepping up in trip.

Comparatively he returned the quickest time of the night and was marked over 2.5L inside standard for his last 600m.

The market identified both Deimos ($3.00) and Nova Swiss ($3.20) as his main dangers and while Nova Swiss clearly had excuses, the race locks in well through Deimos.

For instance if you were to take Countofmontecristo out of the race, Deimos scores comfortably by 2.5L with 3L back to third.

Case in point, the decisive beaten margins and sharp overall time indicate it is a strong piece of form and Countofmontecristo is certainly a smart type.

Trainer Michael Clements is not one to rush his gallopers and expect Countofmontecristo to continue his rise through the grades.

If not already in your blackbook, he is certainly a must, as Countofmontecristo looks to have many more wins up his sleeve.

Song To The Moon

The Ricardo Le Grange trained Song To The Moon notched up the hat-trick in the seventh event and is clearly a stayer heading in the right direction.

A winner of five of his 10 starts, Song To The Moon continues to raise the bar and while only a narrow victor, he beat a classy line up.

Travelling well settled midfield, Song To The Moon was shuffled back to last passing the 900m, with other jockeys not happy with the moderate tempo.

Not one to panic, Nooresh Juglall peeled Song To The Moon the widest runner on straightening and allowed him to work through his gears.

Despite not favoured by the race shape, Song To The Moon still proved too strong, when surging to the line late to narrowly beat his stablemate Perfect P.

The Group 1 Singapore Derby [2000m] has been identified as a logical target for the four-year-old, despite the monumental task of toppling Debt Collector.

Nonetheless, Song To The Moon is clearly heading the right way and is definitely one to stick with as his continues his rise through the grades.

The lesser tempo didn't suit Song To The Moon on Friday and expect him to be more impressive when the roll along — he is a nice type heading the right way.
