Shocking Luck wins 2017 Mittys Rough Habit Plate Group 3 $125,000 at Doomben (QLD), 2000m.
The New Zealand three-year-old Shocking Luck came very much into Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) contention with a strong staying performance in winning here. Having his second run in Australia and his second start this preparation, he settled nicely for Opie Bosson in fourth place, before moving up smartly nearing the home turn. He dashed clear on straightening and then went on to score impressively.
The favourite Order Again towards the tail of the 13-horse field, got between runners on turning for home, went to a distant second at the 100m and then battled on well to hold that position, having no chance with the winner.
Veladero raced in seventh place before improving nicely coming to the home turn. He put in a run at the 300m and then kept fighting on to take the minor placing.
