Egg Tart wins 2017 Treasury Brisbane Qld Oaks Group 1 $500,000 at Doomben (QLD), 2200m.
Egg Tart took her impressive record to six wins from eight starts in following her Australasian Oaks (Gr 1, 2010m) win at Morphettville on 6 May with another Group One success here. Again ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, she settled back in 11th place, behind a reasonable pace (first 1600m in 1:41.02) before improving deep nearing the home turn. She then produced a really strong finishing sprint, swept to the lead at the 50m before going to score impressively.
Godolphin-raced filly Pygmy advanced quickly after good wins in much lower class at Kembla and Hawkesbury to take a very promising second. She raced in last place in the 16-horse field until nearing the home turn, got between runners on straightening before switching deep at the 200m. She then came with a strong late finish to take second in a very promising effort.
Oklahoma Girl raced in ninth place, between runners, improved on turning for home, got a split to be in a challenging position on passing the 200m and the fought on well for a good third.
Kenedna settled well back in 13th place and remained there until coming to the home turn. After being blocked on straightening, she went deep at the 200m and then came with a very good run to take (1.6 lengths) fourth.
