Ever Loyal wins 2017 Zacinto Stakes Listed NZ$70,000 at Riccarton Park (NZ), 1600m.
A strong maiden winner at his previous start, promising Ever Loyal dwelt slightly from barrier 13 but soon rushed forward to settle second, one out. Jockey Jason Waddell acted as chaser around the bend and past the crossing then took over turning for home.
Breaking three lengths clear at the 250m, he looked an easy winner, began to tire then Waddell had to keep him going to hold on quite well by a length and a quarter.
Scott Base was well back at the 800m, needed a run turning in then switched back to the fence, running on well for second to hold out Swing Note, who, from midfield at the top of the straight, finished on well in the centre of the track for a good third. The Sparkle, handy enough turning in, battled on for fourth.
