Properantes wins 2017 R.J. Peters Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Ascot (WA), 1500m.
Properantes advanced after his win a Benchmark 72 (1600m) at this track on 4 November to score a surprise $21 win in this Group Three race. He settled in fourth place, one out and one out, behind a steady tempo, before moving up well to take the lead on straightening. He then fought back to win well.
Royal Star raced back in seventh place, between runners, switched out nicely to be fourth on turning for home and kept running on well for second.
The favourite Variation settled back in last place in the eight-horse field, was under riding at the tempo increased nearing the home turn, got through to fourth at the 100m and battled on well in the sprint home for third.
