Music Magnate wins 2017 Christmas Classic Listed $150,000 at Randwick (NSW), 1200m.
The Bjorn Baker-trained Music Magnate, winner of the 2016 Doomben 10,000 (Gr 1, 1350m) made an impressive return to racing taking his record to nine wins from 20 starts in scoring here.
Having his first start since failing on a Heavy 10 track at Eagle Farm in May, he was quickly away from barrier nine and settled well outside the leader (Isorich) before putting pressure on that runner nearing the home turn. He went to front at the 200m and then fought back gamely under his 61kg to win well.
Dothraki had a good trip in third place on the rails before angling into clear running on straightening. He challenged at the 100m and battled on well for a good second at his second run this preparation.
Isorich was smartly away from his outside barrier (11) and soon went to the front. He was overtaken at the 200m but then kept fighting back well under his limit weight (53kg), holding on nicely for third.
Supreme Effort raced in seventh place (trapped wide). He moved up well at the 200m and then battled on well for (1.1 lengths) fourth after a difficult trip.
