Long Leaf wins 2018 Ladbrokes B.D. Preview (C&G) Listed $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC), 1000m.
The Lindsay Park-trained/Coolmore raced-colt Long Leaf scored a good first-up win and remains unbeaten after three starts. He raced in fourth place, improved nearing the home turn before Damien Oliver gained an ideal split shortly after straightening. The colt then took the lead at the 200m and fought back well to score quite comfortably by a half-length.
Ollivander was eased from his outside barrier (6), raced in last place in the six-horse field before improving from the 600m. However he was badly hindered at the home turn (when Robe De Fete hung out badly). He then recovered well and came with good run to take second, staging a smart effort.
Run Naan raced in second last on the rails in the small field and kept running on quite well to take third, looking suited to further.
Bold Type raced outside the leader (Invincible Lad) and battled on quite well for (2.4 lengths) fourth while the Peter and Paul Snowdentrained colt Invincible Lad led until nearing the 200m before weakening to finish (3.9 lengths) fifth.
