Cliff’s Edge wins 2018 Manfred Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC), 1200m.
Cliff’s Edge, winner of the Norman Robinson Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) at this track in October, who was having his first run since sixth in the Mackinnon Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Flemington on 11 November, was an impressive first-up winner.
He travelled nicely in fifth place on the rails before getting along the inner from the 200m. He got to the front on passing the 100m and then fought back to win well. He looks set for a very good preparation.
Overshare raced third place (without cover), improved nicely (three wide) rounding the home turn, challenged strongly at the 200m and then fought on really well for a good second in a smart second-up effort.
Muraaqeb raced back in sixth place, one off the rails, moved up (under riding) at the 300m, challenged at the 200m and battled strongly for a close-up third.
I Did It Again raced outside the leader (No Dreams All Hope), briefly got to the front at the 200m and then held on well for fourth, beaten less than a length.
