Global Thinking wins 2018 Southland Guineas Listed NZ$50,000 at Ascot Park (NZ), 1600m.
Second in the Dunedin Guineas (Listed, 1500m) two weeks ago, Global Thinking gave them all a start only to round them up and race away for an easy win, her third (maiden stakes) in 11 starts. She wasn’t last away but soon drifted to settle two lengths last.
Rider Kylie Williams tacked on to the pack past the 1000m, accelerated wide from the 500m and traveled so well that she was almost level with the leaders turning in. Four wide she flew past and took over inside the 250m, with Williams giving her a few slaps down the shoulder, to pull clear by two and a quarter lengths.
The Sparkle was second to the 500m, took over into the straight but was claimed easily at the 250m then batted away to hold second from Courte Zarindi who was well back turning for home then zig-zagged strongly through the field to grab third.
Thom Brown was third into the straight and battled on best of the rest to hold fourth.
