Anthony Freedman will make his first assault on Sydney racing as a trainer at Canterbury's Christmas Eve meeting.
Freedman, well versed in Sydney racing as foreman for his brother Lee over many years, will saddle up two starters on Saturday's program in his first interstate venture since he took charge of the Markdel stable in Victoria.
He has progressive three-year-old Alarms, owned by Sheikh Mohammed, in the Schweppes Handicap (1250m) and former Tasmanian Seeking Chi in the De Bortoli Wines Handicap (1900m).
Freedman has only been at the helm of Markdel since the start of the season after Lee Freedman decided to step down as head trainer.
Hugh Bowman takes the ride on Alarms, a son of Lonhro who has won his past three starts on the Victorian provincial circuit.
He broke his maiden at Mornington in October and was given a let-up before returning with consecutive victories at Kyneton.
Boom apprentice Sam Clipperton has picked up the mount on Seeking Chi who will be having just her fifth start for Freedman having formerly been prepared by top Tasmanian trainer Charlie Goggin.
The four-year-old was a last-start second over 2040m at Moonee Valley on December 9 and is proven in all types of ground.
