Melbourne trainer Russell Cameron is likely to avoid next month's Group 1 Thousand Guineas with in-form filly Lady Of Harrods in favour of a sprinting campaign over the spring.
Cameron's flying three-year-old outlined her Thousand Guineas credentials on Saturday when upstaging the previously unbeaten Commanding Jewel over 1400m at Caulfield.
Commanding Jewel, a three-quarter sister to superstar Mark Kavanagh mare Atlantic Jewel has since been emphatically usurped from Thousand Guineas favouritism by Love For Ransom.
Neither filly will likely have to worry about Lady Of Harrods though with Cameron keen to target the shorter races.
The Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) was initially slated as Lady Of Harrods' next target, but Cameron is strongly eyeing off the Yellowglen Vintage Stakes (1410m) at Flemington on the same day instead.
“I thought about just going that way to that race and just keep her in the sprints,” Cameron said.
“If that happens I wouldn't go that way [to the Thousand Guineas].
“She's out of a Strategic mare as well, if I go to the mile then it'd be hard to come back and get her into the sprint races.”
After showing promise as a two-year-old, Lady Of Harrods bombed out completely in a wet Quezette Stakes (1100m) when resuming last month.
Since then she's claimed Group 3 victories in the McNeil Stakes (1200m) and Saturday's Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m).
“The only time she's failed have been a couple of hiccups early, as a two-year-old she got in a bit of trouble in her races and the others have just been wet tracks.”
