Catkins from the Chris Waller-stable has continued on her winning way with a tough performance in the Hyland Race Colours Benchmark 70 Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm today.
Waller went into the race with three chances in the eight horse field and it was the only three-year-old in the race that prevailed in the end, claiming her third win from only five starts.
Ridden by apprentice jockey Alysha Collett, Catkins jumped well from barrier 6 and found herself sitting third in the early stages with Caprossa speeding around the field early to take up the lead from Trick Shot.
Rounding the turn Catkins took a few strides to regain her balance and was quickly out after the leaders between runners, and showed a good turn of foot to narrowly hit the lead at the 200m mark.
Miss Spoken was coming fast down the outside but Collett was able to get the best out of the Dubawi filly who ran out a narrow winner over Miss Spoken in second with Caprossa hanging on for third.
“She is a winner and is rock hard fit as she showed last start and again today,” said Waller.
“She fought hard similar to last start and that's what I like about her, she is well on her way and is beating the older horses and beating them with the weight now as well.”
“She wasAided by a perfect ride from Alysha again today and she can certainly sit on this girl and is worth of a two kilo claim.”
Catkins was sent for a spell after only being beaten 2.5L in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes in March and now looks set to tackle Saturday company again after winning her last two at midweek company.
