Verdict

Tottenham may have had a season to forget in the Premier League, but their recent home form is more than solid.

Chasing a place in the Europa Conference League is not where Spurs fans were expecting to be in May, but a closer look at their form in north London is encouraging.

Spurs have lost just once in their last eight home games in the Premier League - a 3-2 slip-up against Bournemouth last month.

Manchester City, West Ham, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Brighton have all been beaten, while Spurs also managed a draw with Manchester United.

Spurs’ poor away form of late has put paid to their Champions League hopes, but after defeat at Aston Villa, Ryan Mason’s boys return to home soil looking to stop an in-form Brentford.

The Bees have won three of their last four games, but they have struggled away from home.

Thomas Frank’s men will finish inside the top 10 in their second season in the top flight, but they have only won four times away from home.

One of those wins was a recent success at struggling Chelsea, while they have also inflicted Man City’s only home defeat on the champions elect. They are therefore very strong and their impressive home form, which has seen them lose just twice, shows what they are capable of.

However, the Bees have struggled to replicate their home results away from west London and their recent defeat at Wolves saw them manage just three shots on target. With that in mind, it’s hard to get too excited about the Bees at 14/5 because they could have their thoughts on their holidays after a more than satisfactory season.

Spurs still have some work to do and Mason will be urging his side to clinch a place in Europe’s third-tier competition. The Spurs caretaker is in with a shout of getting the gig on a permanent basis and another home win will be a feather in his cap.

This could make Spurs, who are 17/20 shots, a more tangible option as long as they can deal with Brentford’s aerial dominance. And backing Spurs to win to nil could appeal considering Brentford’s recent defeats at Liverpool, Everton, Wolves and Man Utd without scoring.

But a bet on either side to win does not really appeal and going low on goals could be the call, with both sides cancelling each other out.
