Brighton's style and defensive deficiencies were exposed by AEK Athens and Roberto De Zerbi's side have conceded eight in three since.

Granted, Aston Villa rattled six of those in, but it goes to show what can happen when the Seagulls get it wrong.

They've conceded in each of their nine matches in all competitions this season.

Marseille are in no form at all having won just two of their opening 10 matches.

They were dumped out of the Champions League by Panathinaikos in August but they did come from behind twice to secure a 3-3 draw away to Ajax on matchday one.

The French side did start the Ligue 1 season with two wins and three draws, but the form table will tell you they're winless in five and have conceded at least three in their last three.

They've also conceded at least one goal in 12 of their last 13 Champions League or Europa League proper games.

Aubameyang has scored four goals in three matches in Europe while Pedro was nearly Brighton's two-goal hero last time out.

Key stats

- Marseille have just conceded three goals in three consecutive games for the first time this century.

- Marseille have won one of their last eight European home games against English teams.

- Brighton haven't kept a competitive clean sheet since beating Arsenal 3-0 in May.

- Brighton have averaged 2.05 goals per game away from home in 2023.
