Barrier dents O'Shea's confidence about Number One Gun

In-form trainer John O'Shea believes Number One Gun will put in a good performance first-up despite drawing a bad barrier at Scone tomorrow.

Contesting the Patinack Farm Class 1 Handicap (1100 metres), Number One Gun has come up with barrier 18 in the race and will be carrying the top weight of 59 kilograms.

Number One Gun is part of the Number One Club's stable of animals which contains several gallopers and harness horses.

“His work has been good and his two trials have been excellent,” O'Shea reported earlier in the week.

“I feel he is a much stronger and better horse this time in.

“He will need those attributes for Friday's race as he has drawn a shocking barrier (18).

“Even though he is carrying 59 kilograms, it's the barrier that concerns me because there appears to be plenty of speed underneath him.

“If he can get a bit of luck in the run then he will be right there at the finish.

“James McDonald (jockey) has been riding superbly lately and if anyone can find that bit of luck the horse will need, it's definitely him.”

Every time one of the Number One Club stable hit the track, five Number One Club members are chosen to be its owner for a day.

Number One Gun will be raced by Glenn S, Kataryna L, John G, Aaron J and Josh J, who will share in $13,000 in prizemoney should he salute the judge.

In other stable news, two of our pacers go head-to-head this Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

Numberone Amenophis and The Big Mach will clash in the Taylor Made Travel Pace (2300 metres) this Saturday and have drawn alongside each other in barriers two and three respectively.

Numberone Amenophis' five Number One Club owners for the day are Henry T, Greg S, Craig L, Peter G and Plamenka B.

The Big Mach's five Number One Club owners for the day are David N, Campbell H, Craig E, Keith W and Enzo M.

Over $6,000 will be up for grabs by both sets of owners should their respective horse win the race.

To date, the Number One Club stable has earned over $230,000 in prizemoney which has been returned to members that have been owners for a day.
