Winning for the first time at stakes level, the 6-year-old gelding's win provided his Arrowfield Stud-based sire Snitzel with his 93rd stakes winner.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Spending To Win was ridden to victory by Tim Clark and beat Glenall by a long head with another length back to Handle The Truth in third.

The horse is raced by Trevor Stuckey and Penny Yan-Stuckey who have enjoyed great success as owners, notably with multiple Group 1 winner Racing To Win.

On Saturday he went to the lead, a position that Peter Snowden did not expect him to be in but he managed to hold on from the runner up who was closing on him late on.

"It wasn't the plan," Snowden said.

"He is the sort of horse, especially fresh, he always over-races and can leave himself short so I was kicking stones."

Bred by Fergus Doyle, Spending To Win has raced 29 times for 5 wins and 13 placings earning $438,300. He was bought for $300,000 by Snowden Racing at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Widden Stud.

His Capitalist half-sister will be offered by Willow Park Stud on the Gold Coast in January. Their dam is the British Group 2 winner Madame Trop Vite, a daughter of Invincible Spirit who is out of Gladstone Street, a winner in Germany and a half-sister to the German Listed winner Goethe.

Spending To Win is Snitzel's 11th stakeswinner this year, a list headed by Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist and Group winners I Am Excited, Exhilarates, Irithea, Redzel and Taikomochi. He's also among the remarkable tally of 18 stakeswinners (10.4% of named foals) from Snitzel's 2013 crop.

Snitzel has 52 yearlings catalogued for next year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He has been champion sire in Australia for the last 3 seasons and is currently sitting in 12th place in the general sires table by earnings.
