Snowden confident that Snitzel colt can prove himself at Group 1 level 

Co-trainer Peter Snowden is confident in the abilities of Wild Ruler (Snitzel) to add an all important Group One victory to his CV when he lines up in The Galaxy (Gr 1, 1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Wild Ruler has won four times to date and comes into Saturday’s race having captured the Fireball Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Randwick on March 6. Of the past 20 winners of The Galaxy, 11 have carried 53.5kg or less and Wild Ruler will have to shoulder just 51kg, a significant drop in the 59kg he carried to victory last start. 

"It will be three weeks since he raced last, but we've kept him right up to the mark and he'll be ready to go on Saturday," Peter Snowden said. 

"He's in good shape. There are no excuses there and with 51 kilos on his back, he's dropping eight kilos from his last start so that's a big advantage. 

"He is meeting some Group One horses here but potentially, I think he might get there at some stage, hopefully on Saturday." 

Snowden won The Galaxy in 2017 with another son of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) in the now Newgate Farm-based Russian Revolution, who raced in the same colours as Wild Ruler who was bought by China Horse Club, Newgate Bloodstock and WinStar for $525,000 from the draft of Kia Ora Stud at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
