UK: Bahrain Hat-Trick For Gosden

3 minute read

John Gosden claimed top honours in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket for the third successive year as Feel Like Dancing turned in a determined display in the hands of William Buick.

The Clarehaven maestro saddled Masked Marvel and Shantaram to win the last two runnings of this one-mile-five-furlong Group Three and his latest candidate was a 3-1 chance, having filled the runner-up spot in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot.

Buick was never too far away from a steady early pace on Feel Like Dancing, and though he was hard at work from over two furlongs out, his mount responded willingly to fend off 33-1 outsider Jathabah by a neck.

Buick said: "He's pretty inexperienced, so I thought he did it well. He battled on gamely and fought them all off. He's going to improve as the season progresses and could be quite exciting towards the backend.

"He doesn't need to stay much beyond another furlong. He'll definitely get that."

Paddy Power make the three-year-old 20-1 for the Ladbrokes St Leger in September and Gosden has his eyes on the Doncaster Classic.

Gosden said: "It's a lovely race and it sets us up well as the first race of the meeting. The horse has done it very nicely and he had good form coming from the Queen's Vase.

"Masked Marvel won this and won the St Leger. Let's hope this horse can go there. He's a young horse and he's still learning.

"I took Masked Marvel straight to the Leger, but whether this horse might need another run in something like the Great Voltigeur at York, time will tell."
