Captain Cat and Investec Derby fourth Arod feature in a high-class renewal of the Shadwell Joel Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.
The pair, trained by Roger Charlton and Peter Chapple-Hyam respectively, face 12 rivals in the Group Two contest over a mile, including Custom Cut, who has won his last four races, and the filly Wannabe Yours, who is herself on a four-timer.
Tullius, second in the Lockinge Stakes and fourth in the Queen Anne, represents Andrew Balding, while Custom Cut's trainer David O'Meara can also call on stable stalwart Penitent, the winner of this race in 2012.
Captain Cat could probably be counted as unlucky not to finish closer than third in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood and continued on the upgrade with a Group Three success at Haydock last time out.
Charlton said: "Captain Cat has been very well since his latest win at Haydock and is in good form. He is a course and distance winner at Newmarket, so he has proved that he likes the track, and the ground should not be an issue for him.
"He has got a pretty good record recently and the only times that he has ever run disappointingly are when his trainer made mistakes and tried him in a hood and then blinkers.
"He has an unusual head carriage but that is just him and he has demonstrated over his last four races how hard he is trying."
The race is the sixth in the Qipco British Champions Series at a mile, and also includes Outstrip from Charlie Appleby's in-form yard, while Richard Hannon is triple-handed with Anjaal, Professor and Producer.
