Currently with Marco Botti, the well-travelled seven-year-old was fifth at Flemington 12 months ago and managed to pick up second behind The Pizza Man when defending his American St Leger title.

The setback came before a planned appearance in the Caulfield Cup, and Darren Dance, of part-owners Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, said: "Hopefully he'll be back next year, the injury is significant but not career-ending."

Dance went on: "He'll stay in Australia. It's something we'll talk about when we've got Tuesday out of the way.

"I think there's a really good chance we'll have him around in 2015 but if he's not right, we'll pull up stumps."

Dance and Botti still have Geoffrey Freer winner Seismos in contention for Tuesday's big race.
