George Scott is keen to give Another Batt a second chance at Listed level in Friday's Bathwick Tyres Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury.

A Ripon winner on his first run for Scott after moving from Ireland, he was unplaced but not disgraced at Royal Ascot in the Norfolk Stakes.

Since then a trip to Ayr proved a worthwhile confidence booster and he steps back up in class in Berkshire.

"We have been really pleased with Another Batt since Ayr. I always think it is important after having a hard race at Royal Ascot to come back and get a bit of confidence," said Scott.

"Therefore, we decided Ayr was the right race. He idled in front and won with a bit in hand. He deserves his chance back in Listed company.

"I thought he ran with great credit at Ascot. For whatever reason, he was a bit away from the action and I think five furlongs on rattling fast ground is not really his cup of tea. He was 16th a furlong out, so then to run on and finish eighth was a pretty fair effort.

"We have ridden him from the front in a lesser grade because we didn't want to take any chances, but we would be happy to take a lead if someone else wants to go on."

Another Batt heads a nine-strong field.

The Roger Varian-trained Madeline steps down in grade after finishing fifth in the Albany Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Speaking on his website www.varianstable.com, the trainer said: "Madeline finished third on her side in the Albany and the race has already produced two subsequent Group winners.

"A flat six furlongs looks perfect for her and while ease in the ground is an unknown, her pedigree offers hope she will act on the surface."

Richard Fahey's Simmy's Copshop, Marco Botti's Jellmood and Richard Hannon's filly Natural also feature.
