Yibir set for Newbury return...
The Charlie Appleby-trained Yibir is set to return to the track on May 20 in the Al Rayyan Stakes at Newbury. The Breeders' Cup Turf winner had a successful 2021 campaign including consecutive wins in the Great Voltigeur, the Jockey Club Invitational at Belmont and the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar.
At four, he returned for a spring campaign with three placings in three countries followed by success in the Princess of Wales's Stakes on the July course at Newmarket. Following that win, Yibir has been off the track but was seen working with stablemate Flying Honours in a gallop at Newmarket on Friday.
Appleby said: "I'm delighted with Yibir as he has been off the track since winning the Princess of Wales's Stakes on the July course last year.
"The plan with him is to head to the Aston Park Stakes (Al Rayyan) at Newbury. He had a setback after Newmarket and has been off since.
"Admittedly Yibir was in the Jockey Club Stakes (on Friday) but I felt he was maybe a gallop or two short to go for that, so that is why I decided to take him for a gallop instead."
Earlier today nominations were released for the final domestic Group One in Hong Kong, the Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup, and Appleby has entered Yibir along with Global Storm, Rebel's Romance, and Siskany. The race is over a mile and half at Shat Tin and will be run on Sunday 28 May.
