Anlon is now a black type winner after taking out the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes in a head-bobber at Flemington on Saturday.

The Darren Weir-trained gelding produced a career best effort to commence 2014 and on Saturday was well fancied in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m).

Anlon was positioned in an ideal midfield spot by Dean Yendall and appeared poised to strike a long way from home.

While Anlon charged home out wide, Limes showed good resistance after settling handy and a stride for stride battle ensued.

Anlon got the nod in a photo finish over Limes with Gig third and Chase The Rainbow posting a sharply improved fourth on his first up effort.

“He got a terrific ride and he got there at the right time,” winning trainer Darren Weir said.

“I thought the other horse had kicked back and got him on the line.”

Plagued by wind problems throughout his career, trainer Darren Weir has found the key to Anlon this preparation which has revolved around plenty of beach work.

“He is a very tough horse,” Weir said.

“It has been a terrific preparation.

“It is terrific to be able to win a black type race for Gerry [Ryan]. He is a great supporter of our stable and has heaps of horses with us."

Dean Yendall made it two from two aboard Anlon on Saturday having also partnered the Stratum gelding to victory on January 1.

“Going around to the gates you notice his breathing is a bit abnormal,” said Yendall.

“In the run he is fine.

“I needed to be a little bit patient to find where I wanted to be in the straight. I got there quite easily and thought I was going to win by three or four lengths.

“Limes kicked back but we got the bob when it counted.”
