The Leon and Troy Corstens stable hope to receive a belated Christmas gift with Runson at Caulfield on Boxing Day.
The Delzao gelding has had just one start where he not only scored a 1.5 length win at Mornington but also broke the 1000 metre course record in the process.
Runson lines up in a benchmark 78 for three-year-olds over 1200 metres and Troy Corstens described the horse as something special.
“I really like him,” Corstens said
“He was very good first up – he hit the line really well and was going away from them at the finish, and then to realise he’d run a track record at his first ever start I was pretty impressed with that.”
Corstens described Runson as a ‘no fuss’ horse.
“He’s an unreal horse, he’s real workmanlike and has got natural ability, but he’s very easy to train.
“We’re looking forward to seeing where we can get with him.”
The Corstens stable will also run General Groove in the Listed Christmas Stakes on the same program.
“The 1200 metres should suit him and the listed win would be nice to get on the page for (owner) Jonathan Munz,” Corstens said.
Stephen Baster will take the ride on General Groove.
“Stephen’s had a bit of success on him in the past so we’ll reunite with Stephen and see how we go.”
